Constructs of Hair: Female Male

How has hair become a defining feature of identity? In order to play your gender role acceptably you must conform to its regulations. For this piece, I plugged thousands of hairs into silicone, creating twin slabs of arm hair, head hair, and pubic hair. Then I subjected half of these samples to the standards of femininity and the other half to the standards of masculinity. This creates a stark comparison between the two which points out the absurdity of our Western culture and hopefully prompts others to think deeper into the driving forces behind their presentation of body hair.
